![]() Kailua Beach Park, Oahu
Kailua Beach Park on Oahu’s East Shore (450 Kawailoa Road) is your classically gorgeous Hawaiian beach, with long stretches of fine, white sand, graceful ironwood trees, clear, aqua water and little islands off in the distance. Lots of body surfing, swimming, surfing and wind-surfing goes on here. Wind-surfing equipment can be rented in nearby Kailua town. This spot is often missed because it's hidden on the other side of Waikiki, over the Ko'olau Mountain Range. There are three driving routes to discover Kailua Beach Park: The H3 Freeway, the Likelike Highway (Route 63), and/or the Pali Highway (Route 61). The H3 Freeway provides the highest drama as this new roadway floats on the side of the mountains, hovering and winding its way down to Kailua, providing an angel's view of this heavenly destination. The Hawaiian Lifeguard Association reports that you can find the following at Kailua Beach and its park areas: LIFEGUARDS, SAND, PICNIC AREAS, PHONES, SHOWERS, RESTROOMS. Since, in our opinion, no beach should be without sand, we are glad to learn of the lifeguards' report. With a protective coral reef providing safe swimming and consistent water temperatures of 75 degrees, Kailua Beach is, naturally, a popular spot. Kailua has recently been named as one of the best beaches in the world by various publications, so it won't be "hidden" for long. Still, due to its excellent and numerous beach attributes (including sand!), Kailua Beach Park should be included on any not-to-be-missed list. © Best Places Hawaii, 1995-2008. All rights reserved. |
