Love Stories of Hawaii

Change of Heart
Dedicated to Roy

Submitted by Jennifer

After living with and married to my high school sweetheart for 10 years, he decided to leave me and his three beautiful toddler girls for a married woman. I thought I would never have any passion or romance for another man.

This was my first trip meeting ‘my friend' in Hawaii. I arrived with anticipation, not knowing what Hawaii or this meeting had in store for me. I had spoke to ‘my friend' through email, on the phone, and through letters for two years and now we were about to meet. I was very nervous. I had only seen him in pictures and I didn‘t know what to expect. The moment I stepped foot into the airport, I looked anxiously from person to person, hoping to spot him out from the rest. Without success, I walked to claim my luggage. Suddenly, I felt a heavy hand on my shoulder. I turned to see him and before anything was said he greeted me with a friendly aloha, a big smile, a beautiful lei, and a warm hug. At that moment, I could feel things would be okay. My nervousness suddenly vanished. He was dark, handsome, friendly, funny, and so much more than what I had expected. Our conversations flowed very easily, just like when we talked on the phone. On the way to the hotel, I enjoyed our conversations and the natural beauty of Hawaii, the palm trees, mountains, and the ocean. Everything seemed so beautiful and perfect, even the air seemed so fresh, so clean. We hit it off right away. He was everything I thought he would be and more. That evening we dinned outdoors at a beautiful, elegant hotel restaurant and listened to Hawaiian music. While enjoying the music and the Hawaiian performers, he held me tightly. I could feel him wanting to be closer to me. Because of the hurt from my past relationship, I had talked myself into being relaxed enough to enjoy every moment. All of a sudden, under the torched -lit Hawaiian night sky, he pulled me closer and kissed me passionately. A spark of passion ignited both of us. The next several days was a romantic whirlwind filled with new adventures. He had made plans for us which included his favorite places. We continued to get to know each other while at a luau, horseback riding, walking the beaches hand-in-hand, hiking diamond head, enjoying magic shows, enjoying nature tours, shopping and so much more.

We found ourselves saying our goodbyes at the airport all too soon. Both in tears, he assured me that we would be together. In my heart, at that moment, I knew I was leaving the man I loved, the person I dreamed of being with. Unfortunately, there were too many legalities for my children and me to move to Hawaii. I left my heart with him in Hawaii the day I had to leave.
