Once in a life-time
Dedicated to My husband-to-be, Ted Adams
Submitted by Tiece
True, eternal love is as rare as the promise of a flawless diamond mounted in the ring of a giddy bride-to-be. To those of us lucky enough to find it, even once in our lives, you are never again the same.
This story is the story of a couple of ordinary people with an extraordinary love story.
Apparently Ted noticed Tiece at a distance on the soccer field when she came in as a player for Nyack College in Nyack, New York. Having both grown up overseas, they made mutual friends, so unbeknownst to Tiece, Ted found out all about her (according to Ted, he "did his homework"). He even switched his schedule times to coincide with hers at the fitness center, but never talked to her. One last winters day as Ted was running into the fitness center, he slipped on a patch of black ice and sailed head first into a 3 foot snow bank just as Tiece and her friends were coming out the door. With only two legs visible from the pile of snow, he could hear her laughing at him and thought of how cool he had played it up until then. She helped him out of the snow and introduced herself. A week later (and 6 months after he'd noticed her and finally gained some courage), he called to ask her out for coffee. Now, 5 years later, they're still happily together and Ted still makes Tiece laugh.
Their love story continued as Ted proposed to Tiece in November of 2005 in the World Cup soccer stadium in South Korea in front of 20,000 fans. He chose to propose to her on the soccer field because that is where he first saw her.
How did he do it? He found a couple of friends to set Tiece up to go to the soccer stadium to watch a game.
Half-time rolled around and Tiece started to complain about the fact that there was no "half time show" when all of a sudden, one of Tiece's friends asked that Tiece join her "immediately". She grabbed Tiece by the arm and took her straight to...TED who was waiting in the middle of the soccer stadium. He grabbed Tiece's hand and ran to the middle of the soccer field, where approximately 20,000 fans witnessed the proposal. Ted had prepared a slide show of the two of them over the past 5 years, which, accompanied by the song, "My Girl", was a sweet touch. After the slideshow, he got down on one knee and the stadium erupted as he tearfully opened the jewelry box with the engagement ring in it and asked her to marry him. Of course she said yes and they hugged and ran off the soccer field hand in hand.
Ted and Tiece plan to get married in Florida on August 5th, 2006. They can think of no better place to celebrate a new stage of their life together that the most beautiful place on earth--Hawaii.
