When I Saw Her Standing There.
Dedicated to Jenn
Submitted by Jonathan
When I first met her, I knew that she was different. And from the beginning, I struggled to find what it was that set her apart. She was very pretty, but there were many pretty girls. She was friendly and kind, but even such thoughtful attributes were not unique. From my own experiences and those of my other male friends, I had become mildly cynical of the loving relationship.
As time passed, our friendship blossomed, and from one week to the next, I planned little adventures that would place us closer together. My oldest and closest friends smiled when they saw us together, and in their faces, I felt a reflection of their approval.
She became my best friend. In the good times, we shared our happiness. In the bad times, we worked harder to make each other smile.
When fate threatened to separate the roads we'd travel, I truly understood the magnitude of the bond we shared, and I finally realized what made her different. She embraced everything that was good about me, and comforted my darkest emotions. She engendered all of my values and hopes for a bright future. She was the essence of what I could become.
With little to offer but myself, I placed my life on hold, and followed her around the world, as she made her dream of helping others come true. In the beginning, I would never have imagined standing before her loving family, saying: "Jenny, will you marry me?" My dreams have now come true.
When I think of places like Hawaii, certain connotations are brought to mind. From the sunsets, the sandy shores, and the smiling faces, I imagine constant and everlasting states of peace, serenity, and happiness. She is all of this to me. She is perfect.
