Love Stories of Hawaii

Long Distance Love

Centennial Letters
Dedicated to Hawaiian Great Grandfather

Submitted by Phyllis

Letters from Hawaii are kept in a strong box for over the past 100 years; those letters were to my father from his father. My great grandfather wanted his young son to join him in paradise. Daddy never did. Grandfather described the Hawaiian women as warm seductive and irresistible as the waters of this island paradise. As a young woman I thought of the old man as a womanizer and I found that unsettling.

The Hawaiian people remain warm and friendly from the stories I read in today's publications. As for my grandfather, that's the only thing we ever knew about him, "he found paradise; he loved the people of Hawaii." I now accept this as an imaginary shared love and a wonderful mystical one.
