Love Stories of Hawaii

Timeless Love

Forever Love
Dedicated to Kevin

Submitted by Anonymous

Kevin and I were married in 1979 on a cold snowy day in Buffalo, New York. We knew that our love was special. We could not afford to go to Hawaii for our honeymoon so we went to Disney World. We had a wonderful time, but I always hoped that someday we would make it to Hawaii. As the years went by I tried to set aside money for the trip, but it would go for food, clothes for the children, or medical bills. We have two beautiful children, Christine who is in college, and Ryan, a senior in high school. Ryan was very sick when he was born. He was born on Christmas and they told us on New Years eve that he would not survive. Many people prayed with us and God blessed us with his life.

Over the years we had other ups and downs, when my husbands business failed and another business closed. But the worse part in my life was when I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1994. I had a mastectomy and prayed that my husband would still love me. He did. I had reconstruction surgery and he stayed with me through it all. Once again I started to save for Hawaii so that I could show him how much I care and appreciated all he had done for me. But in 2003 I had cancer in my left breast. I had a lumpectomy and still felt loved by Kevin, but the medical bills ate up the money I had saved.

This year, 2004, we saved enough to go to St. Thomas for our twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. I wanted to show my love for all the times he stayed with me through cancer and now menopause. But when we got in the hotel, I put champagne in the refrigerator. When I opened the door, the bottle fell onto the tile floor and exploded. We had just arrived at the Marriott Frenchman's Reef. After receiving 3 stitches to my lip and 4 under my nose, I was unable to even kiss my husband all the days we were there. He swam by himself, snorkeled by himself, but kept telling me he loved me and it was OK.
