Long Distance Love

My Long Distance Love with Hawaii
Dedicated to My Husband

Submitted by Bonnie

I've always dreamed of living in Hawaii. But to this day I've yet to set foot on one of the islands. As a young man my dad spent time in Hawaii and often told stories of the lush land with its wonderful people, the beautiful beaches and balmy breezes. Our family lived in the north because of dad's job, but because of his storiesI always knew one day I'd grow up and move to Hawaii. Of course one day came, I did grow up, but instead of moving to my childhood dream home in Hawaii I married my dream boat in Minnesota, and his job kept our family firmly in the frozen north.

I want to be in Hawaii because Hawaii is hot. And I like it hot! In Hawaii you aren't bundled in thinsulate and eider-down; you don't climb the roof to chip ice from the gutters; you don't bring car batteries into your bed.

I want to be in Hawaii because there's sand in Hawaii that isn't used to prevent slipping on sidewalks and streets. It's meant for the beach.

In Hawaii it never snows.

I want to be in Hawaii because Hawaii is full of fish! Grouper, Tarpon, Snook and Shrimp. And I love fish. I love to catch, cook and eat fish. I love it pan-fried, grilled, broiled or baked. I love fresh, not frozen fish!

I can't tell you how many times I've told my husband someday we'll retire and live in Hawaii to which he always responds, 'Live? maybe we should try a visit first!' Then he laughs and we drive up North to an ice fishing vacation instead.

But now, just as we approach retirement, I've found this chance to win a trip, a dream vacation in Hawaii. And who knows, maybe once we're there and the beauty and romance makes this frozen snow maid melt, he might just want to move!
