Second Chance Love

I lost you once
Dedicated to Patti and Joe

Submitted by Diane

"I lost you once Patti and I'm not going to lose you a second time".

Patti and Joe met in 1949 at the swimming pool. Patti was sixteen [born in 1933] and Joe was 18 [born in 1931].

Patti and Joe fell in love, they even went to the high school ball, Joe was the quarterback and Patti cheered for him. Joe went off to play college football until he was drafted by the Army.

Joe went off to war and Patti waited for his letters. A letter never arrived! Patti's mom Rosie, threw the letters away, because that may years ago you were only to marry the same nationality as your own. Joe is Italian and Patti is Polish. Rosie was determined to end the relationship.

By 1953, Patti married a Polish boy, since she NEVER heard from Joe. When Joe returned home from war he was heartbroken, he later married in 1957. Patti's marriage had ended, she never dated anyone for the past thirty years.

Joe's wife passes this past year and Patti sent him a sympathy card, Joe called Patti, they met back at the swimming pool and laughed until dark. Within two months Joe gave Patti an engagement ring, [he is now 72yrs.old]. The ring resembles, past , present and future. He told Patti she is his first and only love, he lost her once and it took a half century to get his second chance.

Patti's dream is to marry Joe in paradise, which they would love to marry in Hawaii and honeymoon there, as soon as possible.

There getting up there in age you know.
