Love Stories of Hawaii

Long Distance Love

Love in the Last Frontier
Dedicated to AJ

What you see with your eyes shut is what counts" Lame Deer, Lakota.

When you are in a relationship with someone who is frequently away, you rely on what you have to get to know someone. In our situation, AJ works out of town, sometimes every other week, sometimes more frequently and for longer periods of time. His job takes him approximately 500 miles north of my home (in Alaska). We have nightly phone calls, and this is how we 'see' other. It feels like we use these phone calls to talk about things that might otherwise be awkward to talk about in person. Sometimes it's easier to say something on the phone, than in person. I am learning to tell by the sound of his voice how his day went. I am learning to know him by what I can't see. I am learning about how Alaska and his job excites him, yet how he wants to me with me. I am learning that he would really love a trip to Hawaii. ;)
