Love Stories of Hawaii

Second Chance Love

Second Chance at My One True Love
Dedicated to Rodney

Submitted by Jennifer

Rodney and I met in Hawaii at Barbers Pt NAS when we were both stationed there in the military several years ago. We were friends for quiet awhile before we realized that we were meant to be together forever. In 1991 we married and soon left the island because of military commitments. When it came time to get new orders in 2000, we decided that we wanted to go back to this beautiful land.

We were sent to Kaneohe MCB where Rodney was assigned to a P3 squadron and had to deploy within days of our arrival. By this time we had three children and had traveled to several bases because of the military. The first deployment we went through went smoothly, he returned and we had a year to enjoy before he was sent on another deployment. The second deployment was full of turmoil for us both. We did not communicate and we let pride get in the way of truly being a family once again. After he returned, we began divorce proceedings and I returned to Texas. We both received counseling during this time apart however and came to see that we are truly meant to be with one another. During a visit to Texas, we both dropped all pride and pretenses and told one another how we truly felt. That we loved one another with all of our hearts and souls. He had to return to Hawaii due to another deployment, but we are both making a better effort to communicate and tell each other everything we are feeling. In June I am planning to return to Hawaii to be there when he gets back from deployment and we would like to remarry in Hawaii, the place where our love began and our love will continue. I thank God for giving us both this chance to see where we truly each others arms.
