A 'Real' Honeymoon
Dedicated to Bill Hollace
Submitted by Barbara
John and Mary had been married for ten years, but had never taken a ‘real' honeymoon. Every year they vowed they would save their money for a special trip. Last year, the roof needed to be repaired. This year was looking good, but there was still six months until their anniversary.
Where should they go? Depending on their budget, they were looking at Switzerland or Hawaii. These were two extremes, but they had never been known for taking the middle road. Their friend, Sarah, had just returned from Hawaii and had really enjoyed the beach and the sun.
A honeymoon was something they had longed for and knew they deserved, but something else always took precedence. A daily crisis was becoming the norm. They needed some time away from life's pressures. The joys of their courtship, the endless smiles and stolen moments were memories they treasured.
Today was Valentines Day, a special day when they remembered the value of their love. John was fond of chocolates, so Mary had a box of Godiva chocolates for him. Mary preferred roses or perfume, so John arranged a special bouquet from the florist.
Their love was their greatest possession, but needed to be nurtured and protected. The world was filled with destruction, so they savored the oasis of their love. Today would be filled with gifts and good food, but the best gift they had was their love for each other.
Tomorrow when they woke up, Valentine's Day would be over, but their love would carry them through another day.
