Promises made/ promises fulfilled
Dedicated to Jan

In May of 1979, my wife and I married. We did not have enough money for a honeymoon and an engagement ring. I promised that I would get her a great engagement ring if she could wait until I finished college. As you might have guessed my soon to be bride chose a honeymoon in Hawaii.
(She has long known I always keep my promises!)
Then the airlines went on strike and our travel agent failed to transfer our reservations to another airline before all the flights were booked. Consequently we ended up going to the caribbean on very short notice. She was dissappointed but understood. Again I promised her that we would still go to Hawaii, but it would have to wait a bit.
On our 10th Anniversary my wife got the engagement ring of her dreams. Sine it took longer than expected I had to go the extra mile to make it worth the wait. This May is our 25th wedding anniversary, and I am still working to keep this other promise made so long ago.
In the meantime we have had two children. Both were premature, and the youngest cost my wife four surgeries and 21 days in ICU after delivery. Our son himself spent 122 days in the neonatal ICU and requires four surgeries before he could come home. The full story could fill a book but just from a financial viewpoint, the total cost of all that was over $150,000. But we think he is worth it.
Now need to plan our long awaiting Hawaiian honeymoon. It may be 25 years later than planned, but we still like the same things and look forward to quiet walks along the beach and watching the sunrise and sunsets. And we need to keep a promise we made to each other 25 years ago!
