Long Distance Love

For Saving Me...
Dedicated to Frank

Submitted by Michelle

I haven't seen the man I love in 38 years. I met him in Hawaii when I was 2. His name was Frank. He was dark and handsome and I thought he hung the moon. Frank was a Honululu police officer and I was his little buddy. My father was in the Air Force and we were stationed in Hawaii in 1966. My parents and Frank and his wife, Ursella, were best of friends. They played cards together and spent lots of time on the beach with each other. It was natural for Frank and Ursella to spoil me since they didn't have children of thier own. Frank was especially good to me. He taught me silly nursery rhymes and told me tall tales. I remember how much fun he was! He was a happy man, always laughing. One day, I found a new bottle of baby asprin and ate them all. My mother called Frank in a panic and in a flash he was driving me to the emergency room in his patrol car. He stayed with my Mom until the danger had passed. I remember that he cried. We moved back to the mainland soon after that and lost touch. I often think of Frank and wish I could thank him for saving me. If not for Frank, I wouldn't have the opportunity to love others like I loved him.
