Love Stories of Hawaii

Second Chance Love

My Friend
Dedicated to Josephine Barnes and Jim Baker

Submitted by Cindy

My best friend was Dougie Baker from the time I was in Middle School until the time that I graduated. Dougie loved me and I knew it. I loved Dougie, as my best friend.

After graduation (1971) we went our separate ways. I never forgot my best friend. Every time I visited his mom he was not living in town.

The Internet was a great thing for me. I joined Classmates.Com and always looked for old friends. I found an old boyfriend and we started keeping in touch.

The day finally came where my best friend Dougie signed up. My heart skipped a beat. I knew that I had to write him. It wasn't a great time in my life and I really needed my friend.

I was completely shocked by his response. He had ridden past my old house and thought of me often. We were both in bad situations and were at a time in our lives where we really needed each other.

Love blossomed for me and a year later here we are living together. I have a timeshare in Hawaii and we will be visiting this summer for 2 weeks. Doug is so excited and I cannot wait to show him my paradise.

There may be a wedding there but we are still working on that. I have inherited a whole new family. It was the second family I had as a child and I feel like I have gone home again.

I still own the house that I grew up in but there are tenants there now. In November we will be moving in. I am sure I will be able to hear my mom's voice saying " Why don't you go out with that Little Dougie Baker?"

I have Mom.
