Love Stories of Hawaii

Timeless Love

Gracious meeting
Dedicated to Maggie

Submitted by Robert

Hawaii has always been home to me. When I was around 12 years old, We moved away to follow Dad's dream. I left my childhood friends to experience the world. I managed to keep in touch with one friend, Kehau, through phone calls and letters. After I graduated from high school, I went on to college on the east coast and still kept in touch somewhat with Kehau who stayed in the islands.

My college roommate had met a girl from Hawaii during our four years at the State University. The year after graduation they were to be wed. The date was set at June 26. They both moved to Hawaii after graduation and I stayed back to work for the University. Before my roommate and his wife-to-be left, my roommate asked me to be his best man. With watery eyes and a slight tremble in my voice, I accepted and booked my ticket to get back home a week before the wedding.

It had been almost a year since I had seen my college room mate and his bride. They looked the same except for the touch of sun on their skin. The night of my arrival, we had a dinner for the entourage. We had the best man, maid-of-honor, 3 bridesmaids, 3 men, and bride and groom. I rang the doorbell, the door opened, and it felt as if I was locked in some type of time warp. I stood there just staring for what I suppose was a minute but felt like an eternity staring at the vision in front of me. She seemed as if she were hovering in a cloud of light getting closer to me. She spoke and I fell from my gracious position. I introduced myself and upon hearing she embraced me with longing passion. We remained in our embrace while we got our senses straight. When we broke free from our love lock, everyone was already staring and wondering. The explanations were short, but the experience was for a lifetime.

One year later to the day, June 26, we were wed on the black sand beaches on Maui. We were both dressed in white against the glistening black sand being cleansed by gentle waves coming up to the shore. Love, once you find it, you can never do without it.
