Timeless Love

Losing a child
Dedicated to Debbie and Dave Henry

Submitted by Debra

Finding out tonight that my neice has anywhere from 2 weeks to 4 months to live.

I did a search on the internet. Was there anything else we were missing. I put my neice name in to see if some doctor may have noted details of her diagnoses. This is what I ran across a letter written by my brother inlaw a couple years ago. So I'm resubmitting it.

Eleven and 1/2 years ago my wife and I were married. At that time we could only afford a smaller honeymoon and went to Mexico. There we were hit by a hurricane and spent the better part of a week sick and without proper food or water. On our flight back home, we promised each other that we would save every week so that on our 10th anniversary we would be able to go to Hawaii for a second honeymoon. Throughout the 11 1/2 years we have been blessed to have 3 beautiful children, Nicole 11, Matthew 9 1/2 and Michelle 6 1/2. Our marriage has been a joy from day one and our children are the blessings of our life and everything that we live for. My wife has been an unbelievable mother, housekeeper and wife. Her children are "her everything". During those 10 years we put every cent away that we could afford until finally last year we were able to plan, book and finally pay for our 2nd Honeymoon in Kauai and Maui. We were scheduled to go during the 2nd week in October of 1998. As I mentioned earlier, our first honeymoon was a disaster from nature, however it was nothing like what was about to happen. One week before leaving on our dream vacation, our oldest daughter Nicole was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. This news was devastating for all of us. Needless to say, we canceled our honeymoon and have been living day-to-day in fear for her life. Last January 1999, an organization called Make-A-Wish sent all five of us to the big island of Hawaii for Nicole's wish to swim with dolphins. Nicole is holding her own right now and is going through treatments at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, IL. Since the diagnosis for Nicole is not very good, my wonderful wife suffers daily with pain of not knowing what the future will bring. I would love to be able to let her try and have some joy while getting away for a short period of time. Because we don't know what tomorrow brings, we are afraid to spend money on anything that is not necessary. I ask for this trip for my friend, my wife, my love - Debbie
