Love Stories of Hawaii

Timeless Love

The Grass Skirt
Dedicated to Gretchen

Submitted by Lou

When we take our annual trip to Hawaii, we don't have to go far. On my birthday, my wife of 44 years puts on the grass skirt she bought at a garage sale for $2.00 and the multi colored paper lei she made to complete her swim suit ensemble. She puts the Don Ho L.P. record on the phonograph and does her interpretation of "Tiny Bubbles." Sure, the hips don't have the movement they once had and the grass skirt seems to get tighter every year, but after raising four kids she looks better to me every year.

As you may have guessed, our plane to Hawaii lands in our living room every year on my February birth date. I turn up the thermostat a few degrees, turn all the living room lights on, and shake imaginary sand from my shoes. I suppose that Hawaii is only in our imaginations, but the wonderful life we've had together is quite real.
