Long Distance Love

Friends Or Lovers Or Both
Dedicated to Allan

Submitted by Tara

At 28, it seemed my dating life was in the bucket. It just seems like guys I meet are jaded, married, full of baggage or single for obvious reasons. I had tried the dating websites and it was entertaining. Met a few here, ditched a few there. Nothing really "sparked".

Allan and I had been chatting for some time. Because of our distance, we never really thought about the two of us hooking up. I am in Oregon, and he's in California. We made a pact to become each other's dating "therapists" from afar. Sort of opposite sex insight, if you will. We eventually decided to chat on the phone and the calls became more frequent, longer and - well, we couldn't get enough of each other. No more talk of whom we were dating, it became talks about "us"! I'm not really sure how the crossover occurred, but it did. We talked about our kids, our jobs, how we spent our days. We would talk about places we had been and even dreamt of where we would go. Allan had never been to Hawaii and I had been when I was very young. We decided that would be our destination for our romantic rendezvous

We both finally agreed we had to meet. There is no way around it. We act like we have known each other forever, we tell each other everything, and we actually miss each other. That is a weird feeling when you have never even stood in the same room! It was the next step and there was no way around it. It took some guts but I booked the flight to Los Angeles.

The day of my trip I was unusually calm. No nerves just plain excitement. My plane landed on time but unfortunately Allan was a few minutes late! Talk about first impressions! When he finally arrived, it was instant chemistry. He was more than I anticipated. I felt like the luckiest girl in the world.

I will repeat again, the chemistry was amazing. I had never felt such a connection to someone I had just met. I met his friends, visited his office, attended a local festivity and we spent an entire evening just relaxing together. I wished it wouldn't end but before I knew it, it was time to go home! We sadly parted and never really talked about what to do now. We are so far away from each other, what are we supposed to do.

The first week back was a little awkward, and my jealousy hit. I think it took some time to settle but we are getting a little more comfortable with no expectations and taking it one day at a time. I can't wait to see him again. We talk every day and miss each other immensely. We still talk about our fantasy trip to Hawaii. I think if we are lucky, we might actually get to go!
