Love Stories of Hawaii

Second Chance Love

Being married to your best friend
Dedicated to Boyd (Sam) Roberts

Submitted by Sheryl

November 1, 1985 started the best day of the rest of my life. I finally had a date with the man I had been sharing coffee with for months. I was a waitress and he was a lienman for a power company. We got to know each other day by day as he would come into my work place. Later I found out he didn't really like coffee, but he did drink a lot of it during that time. We shared our childhood stories, our children stories from our previous marriages, he was the highlight of my day. Becoming best friends, strenghtened our relationship and grew into a love you only dream about. On December 24th, 1988, he surprised me with an engagement ring. Both coming out of stale, bad marriages, we were apprehensive of a committment and falling into the same routine. Today, almost 16 years later, we have nurtured and grown even closer. We have made 5 trips to Hawaii, it was always my dream, but never really a reality. He made that dream come true. In 1985, he was forced to retire with a bad back, 3 back surgeries later, he still is not well, but manages to still take me to my dream vacation of Hawaii. We may not be as active as we used to be, but have learned to stop and smell the roses and take each day to the fullest. Now, I get morning coffee in bed, and a smile and an I love You. Whether it be visiting our grandkids or our kids, or taking a walk, we have come to find what few people do find, a lasting, loving, giving life. He is the best thing that ever happened to me and my kids. I would love to take him back to the place we love as a surprise, and believe me, surprising him is one of the hardest things to do. Watching the sunsets on the beach in probably our favorite thing to do on the islands. thank you.
