Second Chance Love

I found my heart
Dedicated to My husband, Chet Cornman

Submitted by Terry

On June 12 1986 my husband of five years passed away from brain cancer. I was 30 years old with two little girls. I needed a shoulder to cry on. My brother Dennis lived half a world away in Hawaii. I dealt with the necessities of the moment and then flew what was left of my family to my brother. It was on the lanai of his home that I found the strenghth to go on.

Two years later I met Chet. He was the one person that had been able to make me feel safe and secure for the first time since becoming a widow. I had found my soulmate. We faced some obstacles in combining a family that included my two girls and his children, two girls and a boy. Four of which were teenagers.

Life was difficult. There were times that I didn't know which direction to turn. But through it all, my Chet was there. Sometimes we didn't see eye to eye, but we always knew we had each other.

We have the house to ourselves now. But his health is precarious at best. He has survived Thryoid cancer, a scare with his heart and is possibly facing a second surgery for a bad back.

I need to hold on to him. I need to share every moment with him. I can't lose the man that put life back into me.

I remember the mornings sitting on my brother's lanai watching rainbows appear. I wished I could find my pot of gold at the end of one of those arcs. I have found my pot of gold. His name is Chet.
