He called my name as he caressed my hand in the soft morning light.
"Wake up, Darling. Today is the day."
I opened my eyes to see him smiling at me. The thought of our magical place crept into my sleepy mind like a ship rolling through the fog. I smiled back at him as the memories came flooding back to me of how our love blossomed in the land of flowers.
Our 25th wedding anniversary was upon us and we were returning to the place where we met and fell in love - Hawaii.
We met on a black sand beach during an enchanted spring day. I lay in the sand sunning myself and he tripped over my legs as he backed up to take a picture. We looked at each other and laughed. The captivation was instantaneous. He joined me on my beach blanket and we talked for hours. We dined together that evening and spent half the night walking on the beach and talking. We fell in love that night, under the stars and among the flowers. The next day, we sunned ourselves by the lagoon while palm trees on shore waved to us in the warm breeze that whispered across our sun-kissed bodies. For the next two weeks we were inseparable. The land of Hawaii was ours to explore.
We hiked through beautiful rainforests and found hidden waterfalls. We happened upon deserted beaches where the only inhabitants were birds perched in the trees lining the shore. We visited craters haunted by ghosts of extinct volcanoes and marveled at the astonishing landscape created by such a force of nature. We were spellbound by the brilliant colors of exotic birds and tropical flowers. We could almost see the spirits of nature dancing around us, celebrating every moment. And we celebrated with them.
Suddenly, we understood what life is for. Everything made sense and the secrets of the universe were unveiled to us. Our bliss was complete.
Now, the paradise that inspired our unbound love beckoned to us. We returned to nourish our souls in a place of unparalleled beauty. We returned to Hawaii.
