Second Chance Love

After All These Years
Dedicated to R. Davis and G Miller

Submitted by Clay

We first started dating in 1985, I was a senior and Clay was a junior in High School. After graduation I went away to college and Clay joined the Military. We both found new direction in life and drifted apart. Our new lives had lead to separate marriages, children and eventually divorce from our first spouses. We were both adjusting to single parenthood and were not looking for love.

One day my grandmother ran into Clay's mother at a small café in East Texas. Their conversations quickly centered around the two of us. After a few minutes they both realized that Clay and I were divorced. My grandmother gave his mother my phone number and that was the beginning of our future together.

Clay called about 1 week later. We had not spoken in over 11 years but it was just like old times. We realized that we both had boys who were 6 years old. Clay was now driving a truck and I lived in Texas. We talked for hours and then decided to go out the next time he was in town. Seeing each other for the first time after 11 years was just like we had never been apart. We talked all night long and could barley stand his departure. Realizing that we were meant for each other Clay stopped driving a truck and we were married 6 months later!!

I had always said that if I got remarried I would never change my last name because I wanted my son to have the same last name as mine. Luckily, Clay's last name is Davis and my married name was already Davis!! That was convenient. Also, did I mention that we later found out we were born in the same small hospital and delivered by the same doctor only 1 month and 8 days apart! I guess some things are just meant to be, even after all these years!
