Our Deams Come True
Dedicated to My husband
Submitted by Mary
My husband and I were married, during the war, in 1942. A few years later we moved to California where he worked at one of the US AFB as a Field Service Representative.
My husband told me, now that we were on the West Coast, we would fly to Hawii to celebrate one of our anniversaries. What a lovely dream! We read all about the Islands, but having perchased a home and raising three children, we were never able to realize out dream to go to Hawaii.
Fifty six years later we celebrated out wedding anniversary on board the SS Independence. The date fell on Thursday which was the same day we were married in 1942. Thursday, on board ship, was Polynesian night and everyone was invited to wear Hawiian attire.
We had purchased fragrent leis on the dock at Hilo.
Our dream had come true and was well worth the waiting for all those years!
Hawaii calls us and someday we will return, perhaps to celebrate another anniversay.
