Love Stories of Hawaii

Timeless Love

A Special Kind of Love
Dedicated to My husband

Submitted by Linda

I fell in love in Hawaii, several times. The first time was in 1985 and I was on my honeymoon. That was my first of many trips to the islands of Hawaii. I stepped off that plane, fell in love, and my heart was never the same. We've been back to the islands many times and each time I find my heart waiting there for me. I found it waiting on a Zodiac trip up the Nepali shore. In the rugged beauty of the shoreline I saw the final resting-place of the kings. Their mana emanates in the crevasses where they await eternity. There is a beauty there I've never seen before and I fear to tread those forests lest nature be disturbed. There are just some places too sacred for mankind to visit. The captain of the Zodiac was a man wiser than his years. He saw right through me and doused me with a waterfall. Peels of laughter assured him he was right on target.

A mother humpback showing off her newborn in the waters near Kona melted my heart. Her small infant winked at us with interest and a wisdom that belied his age. I vividly remember standing on the gently rocking catamaran, eyes closed and the light mist of the waters encompassing my entire being. I have never felt so much peace.

I was born and raised in Washington State and I have never lived anywhere else. But my heart and soul live on in Hawaii. I don't know what it is. Is it the cleansing power of the ocean, the fragrance of the land or the beauty of the people who call the islands home? Regardless, it is a rare diamond cast in the middle of the Pacific Ocean calling me home to its shores.

Love means different things to different people. I say that love is that feeling that comes over your body, mind, and soul that tells you everything in right. Love is peaceful harmony, when your thoughts become music and everything you see and feel brings passion and wonder. The islands of Hawaii evoke that passion in me that some find so very hard to put words to, that they can only describe that feeling as love.
