Love Stories of Hawaii

Second Chance Love
Dedicated to Bradley Nyhof

Submitted by Amy

How could I forget, this story lives real in my heart each day. I was eighteen and never had a boyfriend. I wanted one but love just never blew my way. Summer of 1993 I met the man that will forever be my love. His name is Bradley. Kind, gentle and handsome best describe him. We worked at camp together for the summer and fell in love. The rest was history. Long-distance relationships are challenging but we made our first year through it. Summer of 1994 we were engaged, he proposed to me while we were in a rowboat. Of course, I said yes and we both about fell over the edge of the boat. Another year apart, more challenges and we even faced a death. I was a hurting person and uncertain of the future, our engagement. It came to a crashing end in March of 1995. The engagement was called off. Tears of pain and memories overwhelmed me. I felt like a part of my soul had died. Yet, the time wasn't right for us to marry. Years went by and we didn't speak to each other for 2 years. In the meantime, each of us traveled different roads. He was in my heart and I couldn't let him go. After, 2 years had passed I was able to find out where he was and I called him. He was very shocked and not very responsive. Time passed and we agreed to have coffee. When we saw one another for the first time after 2 years, I knew he was the one that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. Him on the other hand, felt uncertain and guarded his heart. Walking in the park, late night talks, and hours on the phone were bringing us lovers, back together. In time he too learned to love again. Our parents prayed that their children would find God sent partners. In my heart, there lies a peace that comes when you find the person that you know God planned for your life. September 20th 1997 Bradley asked me to be his wife on the Narrows Bridge in Tacoma, WA. I am scared of heights but I trusted him and for a good reason. It was there that he explained how he viewed and wanted our journey in the future to be. The Bridge symbolized our lives. Bradley and I were joined together by God, just like a bridge joins together two pieces of land. Exactly, three months later we were married and honeymooned in the Canadian Rockies. This wasn't my first choice but the mountains were gorgeous and we had a nice time. If I choose the place, I would have chosen Hawaii. I cannot, in my opinion, think of a more beautiful place on this earth. I love the warmth of the sun and the feel of the sand between my toes.

Who knows, maybe one day we can walk the beaches of Hawaii hand in hand.
