Second Chance Love

Worth the Wait, Oh Love of My Life
Dedicated to Bill

Submitted by Carol

Was I secretly waiting and hoping for Mr. Right? At any given point during my 10 years as a single parent, I would have answered that question a very definite "NO"! However, never in a million years would I have guessed or even written a script that would have described the life I have had or was about to have since I meant Bill. My life was very busy, too busy (or at least I convinced myself) for any man to be a part of it. I was very focused on doing the best job I could to raise my two children as well as being very dedicated to my job. I did date a little for the first five years that I was single (usually well-meaning friends trying to fix me up). For the last five years, rather than attempt the "dating scene", I decided I was much better off staying at home with a good book. Even though my children had since become young adults, I was still trying to convince myself I really didn't need to seek out male companionship (but, realistically I could feel the void.) During my 10 years of single life, there was always one man who always kept appearing in my thoughts and even occasional dreams...Bill! I would think to myself, Bill probably keeps appearing because he had become such a dear confidant. Bill was and had been the technician for the copy machine at my office for about 10 years. Bill was always so upbeat, I was almost delighted when the copy machine would breakdown because I knew the technician (and my friend) would be coming to my office soon and we could share the latest news in our lives. November 1993...the best ever!! I was telling Bill that I had finally been able to purchase a new home. I told him, he should really come out and see my home. His reaction was, "When?" I was so surprised by his answer that I could hardly speak for a few minutes. I then said, "Why don't you come to dinner on Friday, November 12?" On that Friday, not only did we discover that we were the best of friends, but we discovered that our likes and dislikes were almost identical...soul mates, if you wish. From that point on, all our weekends were spoken for. Not only were we the best of friends, but we eventually became lovers...the best ever! In March 1994, Bill asked me to marry him. Of course, I said, "YES"! During our many conversations, Bill and I had talked about Hawaii. Since Bill had been to Hawaii, he told me how beautiful it was. I had never been to Hawaii and I had always hoped that someday I would be able to fulfill my dream of going there. Bill made my dream come true. In February 1995, Bill surprised me (a honeymoon surprise) with a trip to Oahu for one week. This was truly a dream vacation. If Bill and I hadn't already been so in love...I would say Oahu would have made us fall in love even more. The ambiance of the Hawaiian Islands cannot compare to anything that I have ever experienced in my life. If at all possible, I would go back again and again, forever, oh love of my life.
