Love Stories of Hawaii

Second Chance Love

Some Years Later
Dedicated to My Parents

Submitted by Sarah

This is a story of a second chance. I am 32 years old and the product of love many years ago. My parents met in 1966; they were both unattached to others. My mother had 3 children and my father had none. It was the '60's, a different time for America and times were a-changing. They moved in together for a short time. But my mother had children and a past with them and that was her first priority. They parted even though they loved each other very much. My mother was with child, that being me. She did not know this until they had parted. She had returned to be with the father of her other children. She tried to reach my father after she found out she was with child, but she was not able to. The relationship with the father of the other children did not work out. I was born in the fall of 1967. In January 1968, my mother and myself boarded a plane for Hawaii. We ended up on Maui where I spent my youth, and I loved every minute of it. I grew up swimming in the ocean. We left when I was 7; I have not been back since. To fast foward many years, my mother and I moved to Washington state from Hawaii. We were very close, but there was always something missing. She told me that she tried to contact his mother but no luck. My mother bought a computer in the fall of 1997. She was hoping this would help her maybe locate him or maybe some family. She typed in his name and all his information came up, his telephone number included. She called him and told him he had a daughter and a granddaughter. He was stunned like most fellows would be. They talked for a while. He called her the next day because he wanted to know more about his family and whether this was for real. They also made a lost connection that had been missing all those years. They talked everyday till it was possible for him to come to Washington, for he lived in California. He came to her house and stayed with her. My daughter and myself went down to meet him. We did a lot of things that week, pictures and DNA test. For me and him, we had to have it on paper. We do look alike; I have a lot of his features. Being right before Christmas, we had to wait for the results of the test till the beginning of January. We all were to get the results at our homes. My mother got hers first, and she had to call both of us to tell us. For she had always known he was the one. They moved very fast from this point o; they moved him up in February of 1998. They were married in September, 1998. They have once again found each other and I now have a father. They just bought a home together and share a life together. I have never seen my mother so happy. I would love to send them to Hawaii for a honeymoon they never had. Hawaii is a very special place to my mother and I would love for them to share it together.
