Long Distance Love

It had to be fate
Dedicated to Aaron DeSpain, words cannot describe

Submitted by Heather

It had to be fate: His father's name is Lee. My father's middle name is Lee. His middle name is Lee, my sister's middle name is Lee. As a child he lived on Florida street. I worked on Washington Avenue. My mother is from Colombia; he now works on Colombia Street. His favorite team has always been the Miami Dolphins. I am from Miami. Aaron and I met in Maui, Hawaii when I was the maid of honor in my best friend's wedding. He was from Washington and I was there all the way from Miami, Florida. I never thought in a million years, I would meet my future husband in Hawaii of all places! Before I left to Hawaii, my mother was visiting friends in Chile, and a psychic told her I would meet my future husband in Hawaii at a wedding. I didn't believe it. Then on the way to Hawaii, a man who sat next to me on the plane asked me, "So, what are you going to Maui for?" I told him I was going to be the maid of honor in my best friend's wedding and he said, "I know you won't believe me, but I am psychic and you will meet your future husband in Maui". I laughed. When I finally got to Maui, in the car on the way to the hotel, my best friend teased me, "Maybe you'll meet your future husband at the wedding!" This is too much, I thought. I knew everyone who would be there. Then she mentioned her brother-in-law's roommate Aaron had ended up coming! I suddenly found myself looking forward to seeing him. When we were on the beach at the wedding, we talked and everything just clicked. We went out that night and stared at the stars and talked. It was wonderful. I ended up leaving Hawaii and instead of going home to Miami, went to Washington for ten days. (I was only supposed to be there for five days). I left for Miami and visited a few more times. I knew it was love. We made plans for me to move to Washington so we could be together, but I was in a near fatal car accident that stopped me from moving when I was supposed to. Aaron hopped on a plane to be by my side and I don't know if I would have made it without him. You see, I had already battled three different types of cancer before the accident. Aaron has always been amazing regarding my illness. He is an angel sent from above. I don't know if those psychics planted ideas in my head, but they were right. I am now walking down the aisle to Aaron in March of 2000. I am no psychic, but I know that I could not have found a better man to spend my life with. He is a blessing and we will be together for a very, very long time!
