Love Stories of Hawaii

Timeless Love

Heart of Aloha
Dedicated to Kenneth Mark Johnston, My Dad, who gave me two great gifts, his love, and my Hawaii

Submitted by Sharon

It was love at first sight. Have you ever experienced that? Your heart beats so fast that you can barely breathe A warmth begins to radiate out from your heart, touching every cell in your body with light. In an instant you are imprinted with every scent, every sound, every color, and somehow you know, that no one has ever loved this way before in the history of the world. That's how my love affair with Hawaii began, the moment I stepped from the plane, into the warm sunshine, smelled the scent of flowers in the air, and caught my first glimpse of Leahi...Diamond Head. In that instant, my Soul had found its home. In the thirty years since then, and as many trips, this love has only deepened. For years, friends would ask why I didn't go somewhere new for vacation. I must've looked at them as if they'd lost their minds. Where else could I go that would reunite my heart and soul with my body? Why did I need to see somewhere new, when so much beauty, peace and aloha awaited me here in my beloved islands? Through the years, Hawaii has wrapped its warmth around me through the healing of many of my life's heartaches. It is here that I come to be with my Dad...though he has been dead for almost twenty years now. This is where we had our very best times. The love here is vibrant and unconditional, just like Dad's was. It is a living force that reaches inside you and shows you the beauty of your own Soul, reflected in the wonder that surrounds you. It draws forth the lover in your heart, and teaches you that romance is not always about who you are with. It is about who you are, and how you are willing to experience your life. Is it any wonder that so many couples visit here to celebrate their love? They take the time to truly look at one another. They reconnect, through the comfort of holding hands, and the gift of quiet conversation. There is something about the hushed glory of each sunset that slows you down long enough to breathe in the joy, and give thanks for someone to share these daily miracles with... whether a lover, a family member, or a dear friend. If you visit the islands alone, as I so often do, there is a spirit that fills you... a sense of adventure... a subtle awareness of life's possibilities. It changes you. You cannot be here without feeling the aloha. It is in the smiles of the people you meet. It is in the soft breeze that slides over your skin like a caress. It is in the warmth of the water. It is in the gentle rain that kisses your upturned face. If you are longing for a place to celebrate your life, come to Hawaii, and fall in love for the first time, all over again.
