Timeless Love

My First and Only True Love
Dedicated to Guy, my wonderful husband

Submitted by Liberty

Ours is a true love story. When I saw a commercial on K 5 for this dream getaway, I had to write. I love sharing our story with people because it is so special. My husband and I first met when I was fifteen and he, seventeen. We have been married for 6 years in February. My husband's in the Navy. We have had our share of six-month deployments. Through it all though, we remain in that giddy stage -- you know, when you first get married, it's the never wanting to be apart stage, the "I love you" 20 times a day. We got married at a very early age. He was going off to the military and we didn't want our relationship to end. We made a promise to each other that we would marry when he returned from school, and when I finished high school. He came back from his basic training and neither of us could wait to be married. I had to get my parents' permission because I was still only seventeen! They hastily agreed and we all went down to the courthouse. Since then we have been in true love. My husband is the inspiration and guidance in my life everyday. When I was fifteen, I was in a severe car accident. I almost didn't make it. Guy was right there by my side. Throughout the time Guy has been in the Navy, he has made me realize how strong I am, and it helps me persevere while he is away. He encourages me to do my best whether it is work, school or just everyday life. I was recently laid off from my underpaying, not-so-gratifying job. I told my husband and he said, "Well, Liberty, you keep doing what you are doing and you'll keep getting what you're getting. Why don't you take a break from work and go to school?" This is such a generous offer because I have always worked, ever since we have been together. I always thought a college education was out of the question, unaffordable. He is willing to make the financial sacrifice for me to go and better myself. Now instead of listening to my gripe about my job, he helps me with my homework. I think because of the pressure of his job and the pressure I am under taking college courses, we deserve a truly unique anniversary this year. Six years of being strong for each other is quite impressive for a young couple, if I do say so myself. I think we had the cards stacked against us from the beginning. For example, we were a young married couple. We had to be separated a lot. Statistically, the divorce rate for men in the military's submarine force is 50%. And yet we survived, stronger and more in love than ever. I really hope you enjoy our story and can make our anniversary one never to be forgotten by sending us to Hawaii.
