Love Stories of Hawaii

Second Chance Love

The Boy Next Door
Dedicated to My Husband, Walter

Submitted by Jeri

I was a single mom of two daughters for over 15 years. I had established myself in my career, worked hard at being a good mother to my girls, and was active in my community, but I never seemed to find the right fellow.

Who would have guessed that I would find my future husband right next door. I had started building a house, and a very friendly, handsome fellow introduced himself as my neighbor. We chatted each time I would be working on the property, but we kept it only on neighborly terms. I was not interested in love at this stage.

However, as the next six months passed, Walter and I began talking more and more about ourselves, our desires, our future plans, and less about what project I was doing on the new house. Walter left on business for three months, and while he was in Hawaii, he bought a peridot and diamond engagement ring.

When he asked me to marry him, he stated in the most sincere, loving way that, "I bought this ring for you because of two things -- the peridot is the Hawaiian diamond, and it represents the month of August, which is when I want to marry my life-long partner."

Needless to say, we have now been married for three years, but we are yet to visit the beautiful islands of Hawaii together!
