Second Chance Love

Laughter Through Tears
Dedicated to My Husband - The love of my Life!

Submitted by Laura

Hawaii - the word conjures up pictures of beauty, romance, peacefulness, and tranquility.

I feel these same things in my marriage. My husband and I have been through a tremendous amount of stress and heartache the past few years. Me, watching my 6 years old niece battling terminal cancer, and he embroiled in a custody battle. We married in 1999, combining our two families. It's been a difficult journey, but the rewards have been priceless. We've learned to chose our battles, be thankful for our healthy family, and make do with what we have. Most of all, we've learned to laugh and smile through all of the tears. We've become the best of friends. When we were married, we were unable to go on a honeymoon because our 5 children came first. We wanted to establish a solid foundation. Becoming a step parent and blending two different families was difficult, and still is. But it's getting better by the day.

It was during this time that my husband gave me a thoughtful, wonderful gift: a day at the spa. His card said, "it's not Hawaii, someday though, I promise. You deserve this treat.". It was so thoughtful and I know it strapped him somewhat. Now I would like to return this gesture and share a special time just for us, to celebrate our life together and all that we have. He truly is the love of my life and I cannot think of a better place to 'just be us'.
