Love Stories of Hawaii

Second Chance Love

Meant To Be
Dedicated to Sparky (Rich)

Submitted by Terri

It was a warm day in June when I popped into a nationally know retail store in Roseburg, Oregon. I had just graduated from high school, class of '88 and was looking forward to a bright future. I ran in to the electronics department to get some tapes for a friend when this statuesque blonde walked up to me and asked if I needed help. He seemed a bit nervous (I later found out that his boss had pushed him over to assist me). He rang me up and I left. Against policy rules, the boss pulled my check out of the cash register and called my phone number. "She still lives with her parents!" he announced.

Later on that week, my blonde knight called and asked for a date - we hit it off and dated for 3 months. He is 5 years older than me and at the time he was ready for marriage. We decided to be friends for the time being. I mistakenly got married 2 years later, but my husband-to-be agreed to let me have my blonde "friend" be the DJ and also a groomsman at the wedding.

We kept in contact over the years, but my husband was jealous and demanded that we didn't even talk on the phone. After being married to an abusive husband for 4 years, I took my son that he had fathered and went home to my parents.

My blonde saviour helped me through my divorce with no other intentions at the time. It was I who rekindled that lost love and asked him if we could date. We dated for over a year, commuting 150 miles each way, and then he proposed out of the blue. We married, and within 2 years he was able to adopt my son.

What I most value about him is that he was always my friend without strings, had my best interest at heart and makes me feel like I am the only one he has ever laid eyes on. It is now 12 years later to the day that we met and I never regret a moment with him. Now that I have graduated from college with a BA in Education, we have come to a point in our lives that we want to travel somewhere nice together to reflect on our accomplishments and our glowing future. I went to Hawaii as a girl with my parents and always said that I when I found that person who could really share it's beauty with me, that I would be back.
